Does renters insurance cover food loss from a power outage?
I just got back from vacation to find my apartment lost power while I was gone. Most of the food in my fridge and freezer has been completely spoiled. I have renters insurance—will it cover the food I lost from a power outage?

Your food is considered your personal property, so the loss of it will be covered under most renters insurance policies.
Keep in mind that the policy will only cover the food if the power loss was unexpected, not if you failed to pay your account and the electricity was turned off as a result—and from the sounds of it, your power outage was definitely unexpected!
