Does renters insurance cover a tree falling on my house?

I live in an area that recently saw a lot of damage due to high winds. The place I rent ended up being fine, but a lot of houses in my city saw severe damage: downed trees, damaged siding, broken windows. All I can think right now is, “What if that happened to me?” Does renters insurance cover a tree falling on a house?

Thank goodness your place ended up being okay. Yes, coverage from falling objects is commonly included in renters insurance policies.
This refers specifically to your personal belongings. Your landlord who owns the house would be responsible for repairing the structure itself.
A standard renters insurance policy would also include loss of use, which would help you cover living expenses, like paying for a hotel or renting another house, while you’re unable to live in the damaged house.
You’d also presumably have personal liability protection if someone in your home were to be injured as a result of the fallen tree.
Review your renters insurance policy to verify you’re covered in cases of falling objects, as well as other important
named perils
. If you decide you need more extensive coverage,
