Does renters insurance cover a car break-in?

I park on the street at my apartment complex, and my truck was broken into last night. Since it happened at my apartment, will my renters insurance help cover the costs of the break-in?

I’m very sorry to hear your car was broken into—street parking can have its downsides.
While you might think that
renters insurance
policies cover damages that occur on the property you rent, your renters coverage does not extend to damage to vehicles.
You can contact your
car insurance
company and file a claim to cover your truck’s damages if you have
comprehensive coverage
.
However, if any of your belongings inside your truck were damaged or stolen during the break-in, your renters insurance should cover them. (You will have to file separate claims for your renters and car insurance.)
