Does Ohio require smog checks?

I’m getting ready to make a move to Ohio, and I want to be sure I’m ready for everything. I’ve got a kind of older car, so I’m worried it won’t pass emissions tests. Does Ohio require smog checks for vehicle registration?

If you’re moving into any of the following 7 Ohio counties, you may be required to pass a smog check every 2 years:
  • Cuyahoga
  • Geauga
  • Lake
  • Lorain
  • Medina
  • Portage
  • Summit
If you’re moving into one of these counties, you’ll likely be required to pass a smog check before you can
register your vehicle
, but the DMV does provide some residents with waivers and exemptions, so check with your local DMV to see if it’s required for you. If you’re not moving into one of these counties, you don’t need to worry about a smog check.
