Does my renters insurance cover lost luggage?

We got back from a trip a few days ago and our luggage was lost by the airline. We didn’t take out any travel insurance, but we have renters insurance. I know it covers our personal property, so would my renters insurance cover lost luggage?

So sorry to hear about your missing luggage! I’m happy to report, though, that your renters insurance should cover your lost luggage.
Even though the loss of your luggage happened outside the boundaries of your property, it’s still a covered belonging in your policy since
renters insurance
covers personal property anywhere in the world.
Keep in mind that if you file a claim for your lost luggage, you’ll have to pay out your deductible first before your insurer covers anything else.
It’s best to estimate the total of the lost items versus your deductible to see if it’s worth filing a claim with your provider—if your lost items are worth $400, for example, but your deductible is $500, then filing a claim won’t be your best choice.
You’ll want to reach out to your provider to confirm your policy’s coverage for your lost luggage.
