Does my homeowners policy cover the stairs on my deck?

Will my home insurance cover outdoor stairs? I just noticed that a stair tread on my deck stairs is broken. I am not sure how or why this happened and I don't remember it looking broken before. Since the deck is attached to my sliding back door, these stairs are the only way in and out of the backyard.

“Whether the stairs are inside or outside your house, they are eligible to be protected by your
homeowner’s insurance
policy since they are on your property.
In this case, since the stairs are attached to your home, they may be covered under the dwelling portion of your policy.
Once you put the claim in with your carrier, an adjuster will come and take a look at your stairs. If the damage is due to wear and tear, the claim will not be covered. If the damage is seen as sudden collapse or tearing apart or the adjuster can find a covered proximate cause, your claim may be covered.
Broken or damaged stairs are a significant safety issue. You want to have them repaired right away to avoid any potential liabilities if someone were to get hurt from using them.
