Does my homeowner's insurance policy cover flooding?

This most recent hurricane season in Texas has seen more flooding than normal, and now I'm worried for my house. What exactly does my homeowner’s insurance cover with respect to flooding?

“This year has seen an increase in natural disasters, raising anxiety for everyone. It’s good to know if and how you’re covered!
Unfortunately, water damage isn’t always covered by your
home insurance
. Generally, standard home insurance policies cover water damage if it’s sudden and internal–e.g., leaking pipes.
This means that floods are usually not covered by homeowners insurance.
To go above the standard policy and protect your home from floods, you likely need to purchase flood insurance. This type of insurance is of course highly recommeneded in at-risk areas like Texas, Louisiana, Florida and other states frequently hit by hurricanes. Some lenders will require flood insurance depending on where you live.
If you’re tired and confused by insurance, try using
Jerry
. A licensed broker, Jerry can help you naviagte the different types of insurance and compare rates from the top providers so you know that you’re getting the best coverage for the lowest price. And the best part–Jerry shops insurance for free.”
