“HO-2 policies are insured on a named perils basis. This means that your insurance will only cover damage from 16 named perils. Anything else is excluded. In your case, a pipe bursting would qualify as accidental discharge of water and your insurance would cover the claim.
Understanding covered named perils in an HO-2 policy is also beneficial for future claims. The named perils include:
Lightning
Fire
Wind
Hail
Explosion
Riot or civil commotion
Aircraft
Vehicles
Smoke
Volcanic Eruption
Theft
Vandalism
Falling objects
Weight of ice, snow, or sleet
Accidental discharge of water or steam
Accidental tearing, burning, cracking, or bulging of HVAC
Freezing
Damage from artificially generated electrical current
If the water damage had been from something else, the claim would likely be denied. Water damage, as well as flooding, is excluded on home insurance policies. Effects of water damage are also excluded, like mold and wet rot.
To be sure you can submit a claim, you can always look over your policy terms and conditions or contact an agent directly, just like you would with
