Does home insurance cover volcanoes?

I recently moved to Hawai’i. I hear that they’re expecting a volcano to erupt in the next few years. I have home insurance, but I’m not sure if an eruption would be covered. Does home insurance cover volcanoes?

The thought of a volcano erupting is pretty scary, but at least you would have coverage under your home insurance policy!
Volcanic eruption is one of the
16 covered perils
in homeowners insurance policies. As an eruption is a natural event (or “act of God”), it’s impossible to prevent the destruction it will cause. Because of this, your home insurance would cover any damage caused by a volcano.
Since coverage varies from company to company, be sure to review your policy documents or call your insurance provider to know how a claims payout would work. An agent would be happy to review your coverage with you.
