Does home insurance cover roof leaks?
We just had a terrible wind storm a few days ago, and now my roof is leaking. Will my homeowners insurance pay to repair the leak?

So sorry to hear about the storm and the damage it caused. In your case, your policy likely will cover the damage because it was caused by a wind storm and not negligence.
Standard home insurance is likely to cover certain perils when it comes to roof damage, such as:
- Fire or lightning
- Wind or hail
- Smoke
- Vandalism
- Heavy ice or snow
- Accidental damage caused by power surge
- Explosion
However, if a homeowners roof is leaking because it’s old and the shingles need to be replaced or they haven’t maintained the roof properly, then they’re out of luck. Such repairs would likely not be covered by insurance
