Does home insurance cover rewiring?

I recently purchased a home built in 1922. The wiring hasn’t been updated, so it’s still the old school knob and tube. For safety reasons, I’d like to rewire it. Will my home insurance cover rewiring?

Congrats on the new home! While it’s important to keep your home up to date and safe, in this case your home insurance won’t cover the rewiring.
Home insurance would only cover rewiring if a
covered peril
damaged your wiring. For example, if a fire or power surge damaged your wiring, your insurance company would likely pay for the rewiring.
Since the rewiring is due to age and general upkeep, you couldn’t submit a claim for coverage. Additionally, any damage the old wiring has caused is a pre-existing condition, which you should have known about when purchasing your home. Because of this, insurance companies would deny your claim.
While rewiring your new home isn’t cheap, you can save some cash by using the

app. Once you download the insurance broker Jerry, a quick sign-up will give you access to car and home insurance quotes for coverage similar to your current plan.
