Does home insurance cover fence replacement?

I need to replace my fence. It’s been there for twenty years and is due for an upgrade. Will my home insurance policy cover fence replacement?

We’re glad you’re doing some home upkeep. While fences are often covered by homeowners insurance, the damage must be caused by a named peril.
Fences are covered under the other structures coverage of your homeowners policy. This coverage is for any structure on your property that isn’t your home, like a shed or fence.
To be covered, the damage needs to be due to a named peril. Named perils are sudden, unexpected damages, like a fire or storm.
Replacing your fence due to age or wear and tear is usually never covered.
