Does Greece require visitors to have an international driving permit?

I’m going to Greece for business and want to drive around some of the islands. Do I need an international driving permit in Greece?

Greece is a beautiful country! In Greece, the law requires all foreign drivers and visitors to have an international driving permit (IDP). This is in addition to a valid driver’s license.
You’ll have to get your IDP before you travel, so be sure to visit your local AAA office to apply for one. Here’s what you’ll need:
  • A completed IDP application (available through
    AAA’s website
    )
  • Two original passport photos
  • Your valid U.S. driver’s license
  • A $20.00 permit fee
While in Greece, don’t forget to check out these places and attractions:
  • The Acropolis in Athens
  • Santorini
  • Mykonos
  • Delphi
  • The beaches on Crete
  • Corfu
If you’re saving for a big, fat Greek adventure, then you should be very motivated to save on
car insurance
to bulk up your travel fund.
