Does GEICO have a grace period for payments?
I’ve been insured by GEICO for years now but I recently switched bank accounts, and it messed up my autopay settings. I just noticed that I’m a few days behind on my payment. Does GEICO have a grace period if I pay late?

GEICO car insurance
has a 9-day grace period for late payments and won’t charge you a late fee. If you get into an accident during the grace period, you’ll still be covered by your insurance policy.- When you miss your payment, GEICO will send you a formal cancellation notice with a final due date—typically two weeks from the payment due date.
- If you aren’t able to send in your car insurance payment by the final due date, they’ll cancel your coverage.
What about the gray area between the end of your grace period and the final due date?
- Say you miss a payment on April 1st and receive a notice from GEICO that your final due date is April 21st
- If you get into an accident on April 14th, after the end of your 9-day grace period, your coverage is up to your insurance company
Technically, you didn’t have car insurance coverage after the grace period and GEICO isn’t responsible for the costs of the accident. But if you pay your premium immediately—before the final due date—they might honor your insurance policy.
