Does GEICO accept defensive driving?
I received a ticket for speeding. The policeman was super nice and told me that I can probably get the ticket dismissed if I’m a first-time offender and I complete a defensive driving course. However, I was wondering—will GEICO accept my defensive driving certificate?

A speeding ticket can certainly cause some problems in terms of your car insurance and driving record. While defensive driving can lead to a dismissal of a ticket

may not accept defensive driving for insurance discounts.Let’s get to the crux of the issue first. When you complete a defensive driving course and the court dismisses your ticket, it won’t show up your driving record because you were never convicted of the offense. Therefore, your car insurance rates should not go up as GEICO will never know the incident happened.
In terms of using defensive driving courses as a way for discounts, you won’t have any luck either. To be eligible for a defensive driving discount, you must be:
- 50 or older, depending on where you live
- Have taken the course on a voluntary basis
Since you have to meet these requirements to get the defensive driving discount, you may not not be eligible. But if you’re under 50, you can still save money with these discounts:
- Good driver discount
- Good student discount
- Military veteran discount
- Multi-vehicle discount
- Anti-theft system discount
