Does electrical tape take paint off cars?

I have to use some electrical tape to fix something on my car temporarily. Sometimes tape can pull off the paint but will electrical tape take the paint off cars?

Good question, you never want to wreck your paint job! Thankfully, electrical tape shouldn’t take the paint off of cars but it may leave behind some sticky residue.
It is important to note the length of time that tape is left on the vehicle as that could have an impact on the paint as well. If you rip off the tape too quickly the adhesive may damage the paint.
For vehicles in need of a new paint job, leaving the tape on for any period of time may rip off some of the vehicle’s finish.
On the other hand depending on what type you use and if you leave it on for too long it may leave behind some sticky residue. In order to remove this, you will likely need to use a solvent or some heavy grease to break down the adhesive.
Tape may need to be used on cars for a variety of reasons, but not all brands and types of tape operate the same way. Make sure you read the label and any warnings before you apply it to your vehicle.
