Does changing your own oil void the warranty from Ford?
I just purchased a brand new Ford a few months ago and it’s time for my first oil change. Do I have to take it back to the dealership? Or can I just do it at home? (I already know how to do an oil change—I just don’t want to void the warranty.)

No, changing your own oil will not void Ford’s warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act allows you the right to change your own oil—so long as you do everything correctly.
Regardless of whether you perform your oil changes at home or seek professional help, it is imperative that you change your oil regularly, per manufacturer recommendations. It’s also essential to use the proper fluids, which are outlined in your owner’s manual.
Ford can only deny warranty coverage if able to prove that you failed to properly service your vehicle (i.e., performed the job incorrectly, did not change the oil often enough, and/or used the incorrect oil) and directly caused a system malfunction.
The best way to ensure that this doesn’t happen is to carefully reference your owner’s manual before performing any at-home oil changes and keep all of your oil change receipts and/or time-stamped pictures of them.
