Does car insurance cover tire damage from a pothole?

After hitting a pothole, I realized my tire was damaged and I may need to replace it. Can I make a claim on my insurance?

“You may be able to submit a claim to your
car insurance for pothole damage
, but you’ll need collision coverage to do so.
Collision coverage
protects your vehicle from damage after a collision, including hitting a pothole. If you have collision coverage, you’ll want to weigh the cost of your deductible against the cost of getting a new tire.
If your deductible is higher than the cost of getting a new tire, your
car insurance
company won’t cover it. If your deductible is less than the cost of damage, you can submit a claim.
That said, it’s always a good idea to get an estimate for the damage before you decide if it’s worth it to file with your car insurance. If you do decide to submit a claim and your insurance premium increases, shop around!
Rates vary between insurers and you may be able to find a lower rate elsewhere. You can shop around yourself or use the
