Does car insurance cover the cost of aftermarket parts when your vehicle is totaled?
If my car has aftermarket parts and someone totaled my car, will their insurance cover the cost? I'm worried about this scenario because I've had some significant work done to my Mustang.

“Having a car declared totaled after an accident is a worst-case scenario, so it’s normal to be concerned, especially when you customize your car.
If the other driver is considered entirely at fault, their
liability coverage
should pay up to their policy limits for the value of your car.That said, the value of aftermarket parts gets tricky. Since the
actual cash value
of your Mustang won’t include the modifications you made, you’ll need to make a detailed list of the costs to present to the claims adjuster in the case of a total-loss accident. Doing so will help you get a higher payout to match the modifications you’ve made to your Mustang. If the value of your vehicle with modifications exhausts the other driver’s policy limits, you likely won’t get anything additional from their insurance. To avoid that from happening, you could add custom parts and equipment coverage to your insurance policy.
With this coverage, you may be able to submit a claim to your insurance for additional coverage if your car is totaled.
