Does an engine swap or engine replacement reset the odometer?

I need to replace the engine in my 1978 Trans Am after I blew the original one, but I'm not sure how this will affect the mileage or odometer. Does an engine swap or replacement reset the odometer?

An engine swap or engine replacement will not reset the odometer as the odometer doesn’t just measure the engine but all of the components of the car. In fact, it’s illegal to reset the odometer as it would not accurately reflect the age of other parts of the vehicle. You’ll want an accurate record of the mileage, especially if you plan on selling the car later.
