I just bought my very first car! It’s a 2017 Mazda 3, and I’m trying to educate myself on everything about it. Does a Mazda 3 have a timing belt or chain?

 3s use timing chains rather than timing belts.
That’s good news for you because, with proper maintenance, timing chains tend to be more durable than rubber belts and can last the life of the vehicle. In contrast, a timing belt is usually expected to need replacing at some point, often between 60,000 and 100,000 miles.
