Timing belts are used in the engine to keep the movement of the camshaft and the crankshaft synchronized. Timing belts are made of thick rubber, which eventually wear out and need replacement.
However, the 2013 Lexus RX 350 uses a timing gear. Timing gears do the same job as timing belts but are made of thick metal and do not need to be replaced.
