Do you need a provisional licence to take driving lessons

I just turned 15, and I was hoping to get driving lessons as soon as possible. But I’m not sure if I can get lessons without a provisional licence, which I don’t qualify for yet. Do I have to have a provisional licence for driving lessons?

Honestly, it would be pretty hard to take driving lessons without a provisional licence. It’s the document that gives you permission to drive on the road.
A provisional licence is much like a
driving permit
in the States in that it allows you to drive on the road as long as you have an instructor with you. But you don’t have to take a theory test to get a provisional licence. You can get one as soon as you hit the age limit of fifteen years and nine months, as long as you can read a number plate from 20 metres away and you pay a £34 fee.
A provisional licence is the first step in getting a full licence. You do need one in order to take driving lessons, and in order to get
car insurance
on the vehicle you’ll be using to practice at home.
When that time comes, be sure you and your folks have
Jerry
to help out. Jerry is like having an insurance broker on hand whenever you need one, to bring you tailored quotes from dozens of carriers in minutes.
So in short, yes, you need a provisional licence to take driving lessons. But you’ve got nine months to spend reading up on driving, so use them wisely.
