Do you have to be a US citizen to get car insurance in Maine?

I am currently on a work visa and will be buying a car. Am I able to get car insurance in Maine?

“If you aren’t a US citizen, you can still get car insurance; however, it may be difficult.
If you have a foreign driver’s license,
car insurance
companies may write you a policy if you hold an International Driving Permit and other documentation.
In Maine, you can get a driver’s license as a non-citizen. You will need to provide the DMV with your work permit, proof of identity, and proof of Maine residency. You also will be required to take a written exam and road test. Contact your local DMV to see what other requirements are necessary.
Once you have your driver’s license, you can probably get
cheaper car insurance
than you would without. Shop around to get the best rates.”
