Do the police automatically know if you have an active driver's license?
If I get pulled over by the police when I don't have my driver's license with me, is that a big deal? I thought they could just look my information up with my plate number or my name and address. Is this something they can give you a ticket for?

“Legally you are required to keep your
driver’s license
with you anytime you’re operating a motor vehicle. If you forget it one day, it might not be a huge deal, but it certainly won’t be pleasant. The officer may let you off with a warning if you happen to have your driver’s license number memorized. If they can verify that you are who you say you are and have an active license, this is much more likely to happen.
But how many people know their license number and can easily recite it during a moment of stress? Not many.
In most cases, you will be issued a ticket. As long as you make it to your court date with your active driver’s license, the ticket can be reduced or dismissed.
