Do self-driving cars stop at red lights?

Will self-driving cars automatically stop at red lights and, if so, how do they know when to stop? I don’t really understand how self-driving cars work with traffic signals that change.

No, self-driving cars typically don’t
stop at red lights
. This is just one of the many reasons that you still have to pay close attention to the road when you’re operating a self-driving car.
With that being said, however, a self-driving car will stop if there’s a car in front of you at the stoplight. The car can sense the presence of another vehicle and will bring itself to a stop to prevent a collision.
