Self-driving cars may not need 5G, but they do need reliable networking to support their various sensors and real-time communications. And 5G is currently the best method available.
Sensors on advanced autonomous vehicles use radar, cameras, lidar, GPS, sonar, and more. These sensors use such a vast amount of data that 3G and 4G networks can’t always handle it. 5G makes it possible to process such heavy amounts of data, as well as amplify the existing infrastructure involved in automated driving.
