Do rental companies check your driving record?

I want to rent a car, but I’m worried because my driving record isn’t exactly clean. Will rental companies check your driving record? Will they deny you if you have a poor driving record?

Rental companies typically do not check your driving record. While some may scan your license when you check in, it is usually to determine whether your license is valid.
If you have a poor driving record, usually you can still rent a car. But you need to make sure you have the proper car insurance coverage to protect you in case
you’re in an accident
.
You are typically covered to a certain degree under your current car insurance, but you may want to compare coverage from the rental car agency, as well as your credit card company (the card you used to book the rental car). In some cases, you can upgrade your coverage, which will protect you in extenuating circumstances.
