Emily Maracle is a car insurance specialist living in New York. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, she has a degree in English Literature and a background in customer service. She enjoys cooking, gardening, and living sustainably. In the future, she can't wait to upgrade to a hybrid or electric car.
“Since you have car insurance and paid for the rental car with your credit card, you should reach out to both companies as they often provide rental car insurance.
If you have collision coverage, it will most likely cover the scratches on the rental car. You would be responsible for paying your deductible though before your insurance kicks in.
Depending on the repair cost, it may be better to pay out of pocket for the damage instead of having to pay your deductible.
With your credit card, there may be specific terms or conditions in regards to coverage. Your credit card company will be able to give you more information about how to file a claim and what would be covered.
If you do file a claim, either company will be able to help work with the rental car company.”
