“Driving your rental car into Canada shouldn’t create an issue, but you’ll need to check with your rental car company first.
Although most rental car companies allow you to take a vehicle out of state, they may have stipulations about driving it out of the country. Make sure that it’s allowed before crossing the border.
When you arrive at the border in a rental car, the Canadian customs and border agent will ask you for the following documents:
  • U.S. passport
  • Driver’s license
  • Non-resident insurance card, which is free by request with the rental car company
