Do more safety features lower insurance?

I need to buy a car to get to work, but I’m really worried about being able to afford monthly car insurance payments. My mom says to get a car with safety features since it will lower my rates. Is that true?

There’s nothing worse than worrying about the affordability of something you need. Let’s get you set up for success.
Typically, yes—having more safety features on your car lowers your insurance rates.
How so? Most insurance providers offer policy discounts for safety features because more safety features means less likelihood for accidents and other damage to your car.
But note that cars with better safety features are typically newer—and newer cars tend to have higher insurance rates (since they are more valuable) than older cars. But safety features can also save you a lot of money in the long run—especially if they prevent you from getting into a collision!
