Uninsured motorist coverage and underinsured motorist coverage pay for medical bills and other expenses for you and your passengers if you’re in a car accident caused by drivers who don’t carry liability insurance, or who don’t have enough liability insurance to cover your damages.
In Georgia, this coverage is especially important to consider. In 2019, the Insurance Information Institute estimated that 12.4% of Georgian drivers are uninsured, despite legal requirements. This means that, in the event of an accident, there is a considerably high chance that the other party is uninsured—and an even higher risk that they’re underinsured.
