Do I need to pay a car insurance penalty fee if I'm no longer living in the state?

I moved from Georgia to Virginia. I got insurance in Virginia, but never registered my vehicle. I got a notice from the Georgia DMV that I owe a fine for not having insurance. Do I need to pay the fee?

“Since you didn’t register your vehicle in Virginia, you would still be subject to the lapse of insurance fine. While your vehicle is registered in Georgia, you are required to carry
Georgia’s minimum required insurance
.
As you were insured in Virginia, you could try and provide
proof of insurance
to the Georgia DMV. However, there’s no guarantee that they’ll accept it.
Beyond that, the fee increases if you don’t pay it within 30 days. The original fee is $35 but could increase up to $160 if left unpaid.
You’ll want to pay the fee and register your vehicle in Virginia as soon as possible. If you don’t and haven’t switched to a Virginia license, you risk your license being suspended by the Georgia DMV.
For future reference, states will give you somewhere between 30 and 90 days to get a new driver’s license and register your car when you move to a new state. Once you’ve made the changes, shop around for car insurance with
