Do I need to own a car I'm purchasing insurance for?

My dad owns my car. I have to get insurance on it. Am I able to get insurance on it without being the registered owner?

“Most
car insurance companies
require that the registered owner be listed on the policy as the named insured. Since your dad owns your car, he would need to be the named insured and you’d have to be added as an additional driver.
If the vehicle is already insured on a policy, you could ask your dad to add you to that policy as a driver. If that’s not an option, you could look into getting a
non-owners car insurance
policy.
A non-owners policy provides you with coverage when you’re driving a vehicle you don’t own. Since it’s not connected to one specific vehicle, it will follow you in any car you drive, including your dad’s car.
If you decide to get non-owners car insurance, take a look at the
Jerry
app. You can compare dozens of rates in minutes, making it simple and convenient to purchase the policy you need.”
