Do I need personal injury protection in Utah?

What does personal injury cover? I have health insurance, do I still have to have it on my policy?

“Even if you have health insurance, personal injury protection, or PIP, is part of the
minimum coverage car insurance
required in Utah.
PIP, sometimes also referred to as
medical payment coverage
, pays out immediately for injuries, regardless of fault.
It’s often required as it ensures that you have some type of immediate coverage for any medical costs without having to pay out of pocket or wait for another driver’s insurance.
While having health insurance is important, most health insurance providers require auto insurance policies to pay out prior to their coverage kicking in. As health insurance also often has deductibles or copays, your personal injury protection can help cover them and reduce your out of pocket costs.
If you still don’t feel like you need PIP, you can choose to carry the
state minimum insurance required
of $3,000.”
