Do I need more or less exhaust back pressure?

I need my truck to be more powerful since I use it to tow my trailer through mountainous terrain. Is it a good idea to reduce back pressure for more engine power? Or should it be increased?

Exhaust backpressure is a heavily debated topic in the truck world. The answer is that a little back pressure can be a good thing and help boost your truck’s power. However, too much or too little can do the exact opposite.
Too little backpressure can decrease the power output of your engine. Too much backpressure will cause a decrease in horsepower, overheating, and poor gas mileage.
Here are some options that can help boost your trucks horsepower and make towing that trailer a little easier:
  • Keep a regular
    maintenance schedule
  • Install an aftermarket turbo kit
  • Install a cold-air intake
  • Upgrade to an aftermarket exhaust system
