Do I need boat insurance?

Is boat insurance legally required in Texas? I just bought a speedboat from a friend and am excited to take it out on the water.

“Unlike auto insurance, there are no laws in Texas stating you must have insurance for your boat or watercraft.
However, if you want to park your boat in a marina, you may be required to purchase liability coverage. Boat insurance might also be a good idea if you want to protect your asset from certain threats or regain the actual cash in case of an accident.
If you do want to look into boat insurance and you currently have a home or car insurance policy, consider requesting a quote with your company. Many insurance companies offer discounts when you bundle multiple policies.
You can also request quotes online to make sure you’re getting the best deal. If you’d like help finding the right policy and price for you, try using Jerry.
