Do I need a lawyer for a reckless driving ticket?

I recently received a reckless driving charge, and I’m now expected to appear in court. I’m afraid that I’ll be unable to get a lawyer in time. Do I have to hire a lawyer for a reckless driving ticket?

! While it can be a real headache figuring out what next steps to take after getting a violation, rest assured, I’m here to help clear up any confusion.
You don’t need a lawyer for a reckless driving ticket. While you have the right to an attorney, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have one.
Reckless driving is a criminal offense in most states, though. So an attorney can be a great resource in exploring all your possible options, such as getting the charge reduced or even dropped altogether.
And if you were cited for reckless driving for behavior that led to the injury of another person, destruction of public and/or private property, or a DWI, you will absolutely want to consult an attorney. The penalties you face will likely be much more severe.
