I’m on the market for a new ride and was wondering if hybrid cars use gas and electricity?

That’s a great question! Yes,
hybrid
cars do use both gas and electricity combining battery-powered technology with the classic combustion engine. The perk of a hybrid is that you’ll be able to get longer distances on a full tank than the majority of electric cars get on a full charge. The downside is you still have a gas tank to think about.
There are two different types of hybrid cars:
  • PHEV or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles use a small battery that you charge at home. The car will run on the electric battery until it runs out of juice and then switch over to the gas engine.
  • Full hybrids use the combustion engine to recharge the battery. They run on electricity at stop lights and lower speeds before switching over to full gas. A
    Toyota Prius
is an example of a full hybrid.
Hybrids are a happy medium between the two technologies. Think of them as something of a bridge between the EV (electric vehicle) and the combustion engine.
Regardless of what type of vehicle you end up going with, you’ll want to make sure that new ride has the best insurance at the best rate.
