Do homeowners insurance companies inspect homes?

I’m in the process of buying my first home, and I’m trying to schedule everything I need to do. I’m working on getting homeowners insurance, and the company said they will come to inspect the house. Do home insurance companies inspect homes for their policies?

Congratulations on buying your first home, that’s a big milestone!
Getting everything lined up to buy a home is important, including the purchase of the right
home insurance
policy. To get your homeowners policy, the insurance company may decide it’s necessary to conduct a home inspection.
Not all homes need to be inspected for their insurance policies. Inspections are typically needed for:
  • Older homes
  • Switching insurance providers
  • Determining replacement value
  • Homes that haven’t been inspected within the last decade
When the inspection is complete, your insurance company will review the results and decide if your homeowners policy can stay the same, if it needs to be modified, or if they need to cancel it.
