Do electric cars need special tires?

Electric cars need tires that can handle extra weight, since electric vehicles tend to be heavier than gas-powered cars. The battery of electric vehicles in particular adds extra weight and can be a strain on tires.
Some rules to keep in mind is that the tires need to be durable due to that extra weight. Tires for electric vehicles also need to be able to deliver more torque to the road, and should have a better grip.
Tire noise is also more noticeable in electric cars as compared to gas-powered cars, because electric cars have almost silent powertrains. So electric car owners typically also purchase tires that reduce tire noise.
You can get tires made for electric vehicles from certain manufacturers, like Michelin, which produces an Energy E-V tire.
A good rule of thumb is to purchase tires similar to the ones that came with your electric car. They might be more expensive, but will be better for your car and your driving experience.
