do electric cars lose charging ability?

I heard that electric vehicles lose their charging ability over time, holding less charge after awhile. Do electric cars lose charging ability?

Good question! Electric car batteries lose their charging capacity over a few years. The loss is gradual though, so you might not notice until it’s time to replace your car anyway.
Electric car batteries are lithium-ion batteries, so they last longer and charge faster. These lithium-ion batteries are the same as what’s in your laptop or cell phone.
And just like your cell phone, over a long period of time the capacity of the battery is diminished. However, also like your laptop, it doesn’t all stop working at the same time.
EV owners are doing all kinds of experiments to see how long their cars will last and how they thrive in different conditions. Part of that is gauging how long the battery lasts. People have reported that the battery depletes gradually, with a few percentage points being lost over several years.
By the time any significant loss has been experienced, it can be as many as 10 years later.
Whether your car runs on gasoline or electric power you always need insurance.
