Do electric cars cost more to maintain?

I’d love to buy an electric car to save money on fuel costs, but I’m wary of the initial price point. If electric cars are overall more expensive, does that mean they also cost more to maintain?

In spite of their generally higher price tag, one of the selling points of
electric cars
is saved money on both fuel costs and repairs. Not only will you save by not going to the gas pump, but electric cars are less mechanically complex than gas-powered cars, and could potentially require fewer repairs over time costing you less money at the mechanic.
That being said, certain electric car parts, such as the battery, can be expensive, and repairing them requires the know-how of an experienced
professional
who specializes in electric cars.
Some examples of why electric cars require less maintenance overall include:
  • No need for regular fluid changes such as engine oil
  • Less wear on brakes thanks to regenerative braking
  • Fewer parts overall than a standard combustion engine
