Do certain colors of cars cause more accidents?

I'm currently shopping for a used vehicle, and I keep hearing that certain colors of cars are safer than others. I'm not sure about this, but I'm on a budget, and don't want an unsafe color to affect my premium. Do some colors of cars cause accidents? And would my insurance be higher if I chose a more accident-prone color?

“Kudos to you for your practical thinking! I’m happy to report that the color of a vehicle will not be the cause of an accident. While it is true that darker-colored vehicles can sometimes be harder to see, safety features like headlights, taillights, and turn signals make any car visible enough to avoid being hit.
Your
car insurance
rate also isn’t determined by the color of car you choose. Your premium is much more likely to be determined by these:
  • Your driving record
  • The type of vehicle you drive
  • Age
  • Location
  • Credit history
The color of the car doesn’t matter–only the type of vehicle does. For example, if you drive a sports car, your car insurance rate will be higher than someone who drives a sedan as speed is associated with more claims and accidents.
The same applies to your driving record. No matter what color your car is, if you speed, frequently get tickets, or have been in several accidents, your rate will still be higher than someone with a
clean record
.
If you’re concerned about your insurance rates being out of your price range, you can get the vehicle identification number (VIN) and shop for quotes.
One easy way to do this is with the

app. We’ll get you multiple customized quotes from over 50 providers in seconds so you can simply pick the best deal on the coverage you need. Once you’ve chosen a plan, we’ll even help you switch all your information over!
Good luck with the car shopping—and feel free to look for whatever color you like!”
