Can you use brake cleaner as starter fluid?

I’m trying to get my car started for my morning commute but my car has trouble starting in freezing temperatures as it’s an older vehicle. Starter fluid usually does the trick, but I’ve run out. I’ve heard that you can use brake cleaner as a starter fluid substitute—is this true?

We’re sorry that you’re having trouble starting your car! The short answer is yes, you can use brake cleaner as a substitute for starter fluid in a pinch.
While this substitute will likely work without any complications, you should only use this method in case of an emergency. Brake cleaner can come in regular and aerosol cans, but if you’re using it as starter fluid, it has to be in an aerosol can.
Ensuring you use the right substitute for starter fluid is a good way to stay safe on the roads, but the best way to stay protected is by signing up for great
