Can you turn right on red in Kentucky?

My wife works for YUM brands—Taco Bell, KFC, etc.—and she just got promoted, so we’re moving to Louisville in just a few months. Whenever I move, I always like to get acquainted with driving laws, as I really don’t want to start my adventure off with a ticket. Is it possible to turn right on red in Kentucky?

Congrats to your wife on her new position, and to both of you on your upcoming move! You can always turn right on right in Kentucky, just so long as no sign specifically prevents you from doing so. Louisville has plenty of one-way streets, especially in the downtown area, so always be on the lookout for these signs, as they’re present there more than anywhere else in the city.
Before you execute a right turn on red, follow these tips:
  • Come to a complete stop at the painted white line and then inch forward toward the intersection.
  • Yield to all pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists in the intersection.
  • Before you turn, double-check to see if any cars are going through the intersection at a high speed.
