My wife and I want to take a road trip soon to visit family and introduce them to our newborn, but we’re nervous. Can you travel by car with a newborn?

First of all, congratulations! I’m sure your family will be overjoyed to meet their new relative. The good news is that yes, you can travel with a newborn by car.
In general, there’s no real reason to avoid traveling by car with a newborn, but you should:
- Make sure your newborn is comfortable in the car by taking some shorter practice trips before the road trip.
- Ensure you have a safe and properly installed car seat.
- Plan to stop often for diaper changes, feedings, etc.
- Bring anything you think you might need, and more, such as diapers, food, toys, cleaning supplies, extra clothes, medicines, etc.
- Try to plan travel times around the newborn’s sleep schedule.
- Keep a simple schedule that includes time for rest and emergencies.
