Can you travel around San Diego without a car?
I’m heading up to San Diego for the weekend for a work conference. We’ve got evenings off, and I’m hoping to check out the city during my stay there (my daughter keeps telling me to visit the zoo!). Will I be able to get around San Diego without my car?

No doubt, the zoo is one of the coolest things about the city! Thankfully, you can travel around San Diego without a car. There are plenty of ways to tour the city, from the light rail to bicycles and more.
Here are a few of our favorite ways to get around San Diego:
- Take the light rail: San Diego’s transit system, known to locals as The Trolley, winds through over 50 areas of the city. You can grab a day pass for just $8 and jump on the train—it’s both low-cost and stress-free.
- Hop on a bike: One of the best ways to explore the city, especially during the summer months, is by renting a bike. Bikes are a cheap, tried-and-true method for getting around. Plus, they’ll have you breaking a sweat in that warm SD wind.
- Get an Uber or Lyft: If you don’t want to figure out how to traverse the city on your own, you can always use a rideshare service. There are plenty of drivers in San Diego, and they’ll be able to get you where you need to go—like the zoo!
