You read correctly! While you have the freedom to cancel your
car insurance
policy any time for any reason, most companies will require you to write a letter to cancel your insurance policy. Here’s what to include:
  • Primary policyholder’s name (must be the one to write the letter)
  • Policy number
  • Vehicle Identification Number(s) (VIN) of any covered vehicles
  • Date of cancellation
  • Address for further correspondence
  • Signature and date of request
If you are signing up for a new insurance policy, make sure your date of cancellation coincides with the date that you’ll be starting your new policy. This avoids a lapse in coverage that can increase your premiums later and can be costly in the event of an accident.
If you want to make sure that your new policy gets you the best deal on the coverage you need, check out the

Good luck!
