Can you tell me how to get rust streaks off car paint?

The fender in my '01 Accord is rusting. When I drove through a car wash, the rust stains streaked across my white paint! How do I get rust streaks off car paint?

Rust is the worst! Before you start trying to remove the stains, you’ll want to pull your car into your garage or another covered space where the wind won’t pick up.
Now that you’re away from the elements, you can use an aerosol rust remover to get rid of the stains on your paint.
  • Use painter’s tape to create a border around the stains and protect the rest of your paint from overspray.
  • Follow the instructions on the product packaging, and let the rust remover sit for a few extra minutes to ensure it really tackles the stain.
  • Wipe any excess using a soft, clean cloth. This should remove the orange-colored streaks on your paint.
  • Give your car a good hand wash with mild soap to ensure all product and residual stains are gone.
Now that your car is shiny and rust free, be sure to protect it! Having a roadside assistance membership for an older car ensures both you and your car are safe in an emergency!
